1♡ Bring It On

Bring It On: 2000

Cheerleading, drama, & great hair is the perfect recipe for a girly movie. In this film, the Toros & the Clovers go head to head to fight for the championship trophy led by their Captains played by Kirsten Dunst & Gabrielle Union. The Toros discover that their ex captain stole all of their choreography from the Clovers, so they must scramble to come up with new moves to win it all. This cult classic is iconic with its star-studded cast & memorable quotes. The movie also opens up a huge conversation about representation within the black community and the lack of money being funded in low income schools and neighborhoods.

Bring It On teaches women to appreciate women from all walks of life. It does not matter what status or title you hold, the color of your skin, or the amount of money in your bank account. No one should be defined by those things because if you give the underdog a chance, then they could potentially teach you something & even come out on top.

Bring It On: All Or Nothing

Bring It On: All Or Nothing 2006

Hayden Panettiere stars alongside Beyonce’s younger sister, Solange, in the second best movie of the Bring It On series (in my opinion). The movie starts out with Britney (Hayden Panettiere) transferring from her bougie high school to a less funded & “humble” school across town because her father gets demoted to a lower paying job. She tries to gain respect from her once rival cheer squad when she auditions to be on the team, but Solange, who is the head captain did not make it easy for her to enter into her good graces. As times goes on, Britney compares her old life to the new one she lives & questions if her old friends likes her only for her status, or for materialistic gain.

Bring It On: All or Nothing teaches women that diamonds can be found in the roughest places. Britney finds genuine people who like her for what she brings to the table at a place where she thought only rough and mean people were because of their environment. When she compares that to the high maintenance friends that she had at her expensive school, she then realizes that they aren’t people with good intentions; although they hold certain advantages in life because of the neighborhood they live in. It just goes to show that you can be friends with any one as long as your heart is in the right place.

Bring It On: Fight To The Finish

Bring It On: Fight To The Finish 2009

The 5th cheer story follows the journey of Christina Milian who plays Lina. It is the reverse plot of Bring It On: All or Nothing because Lina moves from a high school in a low income neighborhood to an exclusive school attended by kids who parents are doctors & lawyers; while Britney in the other film goes from rich to broke. Since Lina cannot be controlled by the Captain of the cheer team’s snotty antics, she creates her own team that consists of the school’s rejects that didn’t make the cut when they auditioned for the her rival’s squad. When she whips them into shape, they were finally ready to compete head to head with the enemy.

Bring It On: Fight to the Finish teaches us that if you nurture people’s talents instead of overlooking them then it’s possible to help them become skilled & accomplish anything! See the value in all people because we all hold special gifts that can be used to help each other.

2♡ Mean Girls

Mean Girls: 2004

I wouldn’t dare make a girly movie list without including the most popular chick flick of this generation. The infamous tag lines, the iconic actors, & the feminine over the top outfits are the stars of this box office hit. Cady (played by Lindsay Lohan) moves to a new school from Africa where she has to adapt to the brutal, status quo standards of high school. When she finds herself wrapped up within the group of The Plastics she has to decide if she wants to obey the rules of clique, or stay true to the young girl with substance and intelligence she once was in her home country.

Mean Girls teaches women to never lose the most unique parts of ourselves to be perceived as “cool” for the sake of popularity. If you stay true to yourself, then you will attract people who will compliment your personality & add value to who you really are. ♡

3♡ Beauty Shop

Beauty Shop 2005

Hands down, Queen Latifah starred in all of the best 2000’s films. She plays the character Gina in Beauty Shop who works as a hairstylist at a popular salon. She works with high scale clients who raves about her skills throughout the shop; which annoys her envious boss that tries to tear her down whenever the opportunity presents itself. One day, Gina grows tired & quit her job at the salon, & decides to fulfill her life-long dream of opening her own. When her ex boss finds out that she not only left, but takes some of his employees & best clientele; he decides his mission is to do whatever he can to try & bring his competition down. With Gina’s strength, talent, & resilience, she is able to weather each storm & fight for her dreams in the end.

This movie celebrates woman owned businesses and entrepreneurship that many women can be inspired by. Beauty shop teaches boss ladies that there’s always an option to spread your wings, follow your dreams, & actually become successful. If you have the God-given talent, then you can do anything you want to do with this skills. There may come challenges, but that is all apart of the journey to becoming better.

4♡ The Devil Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada 2006

Anne Hathaway & Meryl Streep owns the characters in this 2000’s classic. Young & newly graduated Andrea (Anne Hathaway) is hired as an assistant to the intense personality of a fashion designer who she must please to even be acknowledged.Through her journey she has to decide if she wants to adopt the cut-throat habits of the industry to get ahead, or stand by her honest beliefs and embrace her opposite personality from her competition.

The Devil Wears Prada teaches women that sometimes everything that glitters isn’t gold. With anything or any job comes politics and sacrifices that you either abide by, or you stand up for your own set of values. Always know your worth so you can create boundaries with anything that goes against those personal rules.

5♡ Revenge Of The Bridesmaids

Revenge of the Bridesmaids 2010

Anything that Raven-Symone is cast in is a hit, & I can say the same for Revenge of the Bridesmaids! With its light comedy, and brilliant sarcasm, it gives the girls some fun scenes reminicent of the movie ‘Mean Girls with the girly outfits and cliques. The film follows the plot of revenge that Raven & her bestie plan. They try to ruin their ex-childhood friend’s wedding because she stole her potential husband from their other friend that was with him before her. When they find out that she wants to marry him with bad intentions, they try to expose her tactics so he can go back to who he truly loves.

Revenge of the Bridesmaids teaches women that having good intentions with someone is the key to a good relationship. If it’s true love, then it will last. If the intentions aren’t pure it will eventually reveal itself to not be genuine. Determine your purpose when you deal with others, so you can monitor your motives & sincerity.

6♡ Deliver Us From Eva

Deliver Us From Eva 2003

Gabrielle Unions plays the intense older sister, Eva, of her 3 sisters who she raised after her parents passed away when they were younger. The responsibility of being a guardian made her grow up fast and become uptight and guarded. As the sisters grow up and get into their own relationships, Eva can’t help but act as a mother figure and give out too much of her unsolicited advice on their men. To distract Eva from their lives, the men hire a playboy (LL Cool J) to date her so she can worry about her own relationship. Little do they know that the plan would backfire because the man they hire will eventually fall in love with Eva.

The beauty of the actresses and the plot was the best part of this romantic comedy. Deliver Us from Eva teaches women that if you allow yourself to let your guard down and be vulnerable, then you can attract genuine people who can change your life for the better. It’s a great accomplishment to be titled as a boss and have a good work ethic, but making time for yourself and your happiness is just as important as your career.

7♡ The House Bunny

The House Bunny 2008

Living in the Playboy mansion is a life full of luxury for Shelley (Anna Faris) until her 27th birthday comes around & she is kicked out of the mansion for being “too old.” With no one else to rely on, she has to navigate through the real world and fends for herself. On the way to find her next path in life, she stumbles across a college of socially awkward sorority girls who is in need of a House Mother. Shelley’s skill of charm and expertise in attracting attention from men will help the insecure girls embrace their feminine allure & build their confidence.

The House Bunny teaches women how not to judge anyone based off of their looks. You never know where a person’s heart is & what they have to offer. Their knowledge could potentially help you to reach personal goals you couldn’t achieve on your own. Never judge a book by its cover & give every one a fair chance.

8♡ Love Don’t Cost A Thing

Love Don’t Cost A Thing 2003

Growing up, I had this movie on DVD so I watched it consistently. Nick Cannon plays a nerdy young boy who wishes to walk amongst the popular clique of the school. He will do anything to be cool, so when the opportunity presents itself, he made a deal with the prettiest girl in school (Christina Milian). The deal is an exchange for him to fix her car that she crashed at a party for a two week dating arrangement between the two.

Love Don’t Cost a Thing teaches women that you can win someone’s heart by being your authentic self if you have the confidence. You don’t have to act like someone you’re not; especially when it turns you into something you originally never were. It also gave the “pretty girl type” a different meaning. All women don’t want the status quo type of macho man. They can be beautiful & still be attracted to intelligence, vulnerability, & chivalry in any form that’s genuine.

9♡ Girls Trip

Girls Trip 2016

Queen Latifah, Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett, & Tiffany Haddish makes this movie a hilarious adventure within a group of close friends. The ladies were joined at the hip through college, but once they graduated, they all went their separate paths to achieve their individual career goals. As the years pass by, the girls decide to come back together & go on a vacation to celebrate all their years of friendship. When they finally see each other it reminds them of the reality of where they are in life compared to each other. To pull off the scheme she hires a group of fearless women who helps her steal a necklace worth 150 million dollars at the infamous Met Gala. It may seems like her character is doing this to stroke her own ego, but later in the movie it reveals her true intentions of the grand plan.

Ladies are capable, skilled, & powerful enough to pull off a lot of things that people say that they can’t.
